OPG
Digital OPG (Full Mouth X-ray)
What is a Digital OPG (Full Mouth X-ray)?
A Digital OPG (Orthopantomogram) is a panoramic dental X-ray that captures a wide view of your upper and lower jaws, teeth, jaw joints (TMJ), surrounding bone, and other oral structures in a single image.
Unlike small intraoral dental X-rays that focus on one or a few teeth, an OPG provides a broader overview of your oral health and is commonly used for comprehensive examinations and treatment planning.
At Implant Square Dental, digital OPG imaging helps our specialists evaluate your oral health, identify concerns that may not be visible during a clinical examination alone, and plan treatment with greater clarity — from a single, comfortable panoramic scan performed in-house.

How a Digital OPG Can Help You
Comprehensive View of Your Oral Health
Provides an overall view of teeth, jaws, and surrounding structures in a single image.
Supports Accurate Diagnosis
Helps identify dental conditions that may not be visible during a routine clinical examination alone.
Better Treatment Planning
Provides important information for planning dental implants, wisdom tooth removal, orthodontic treatment, full-mouth rehabilitation, and other procedures.
Early Detection of Dental Problems
These scans can help detect dental conditions before they become more serious, including:
- Impacted teeth
- Bone loss
- Cysts
- Jaw abnormalities
- Other hidden concerns
OPG vs Small Dental X-rays (IOPA)
Small intraoral X-rays and a digital OPG answer different clinical questions. One is not a replacement for the other — our specialists choose the view that best supports your diagnosis.
IOPA
Small Dental X-ray
- Shows one or a few teeth
- Used for detailed evaluation of individual teeth
- Commonly used during fillings and root canal treatment
- Limited field of view
Digital OPG
Panoramic X-ray
- Shows the entire mouth
- Used for an overall assessment of oral health
- Commonly used during comprehensive examinations and treatment planning
- Wide panoramic view of both jaws
OPG vs CBCT – What's the Difference?
Both are valuable imaging tools. The right choice depends on whether a two-dimensional overview or a three-dimensional view will better inform your care.
Digital OPG
Provides a two-dimensional panoramic image of the entire mouth. Used for routine examinations and initial treatment planning.
CBCT Scan
Provides three-dimensional images. Recommended for complex conditions requiring detailed evaluation of bone, nerves, and surrounding anatomy.
About CBCT imagingAt Implant Square Dental, our specialists recommend the most appropriate imaging based on your individual clinical needs.
